Editor’s Note
Dear reader,
I write this from ancestral Tongva lands—Los Angeles, California. When I selected "Nature Loved & Lost" as the theme back in December 2024, I wanted to explore how we process both joy and grief in our relationships with nature and community. This feels increasingly relevant now.
But when disaster strikes, community shows up. A whale dies and sinks to the bottom of the sea, and it feeds an entire ecosystem. Though canyons may burn, wildflowers will bloom again. Loss is inevitable, but so is renewal.
In these pages, you'll find stories that weave together grief and hope through a wide range of perspectives. This is Filter Feeder's first print zine, with all proceeds supporting ongoing wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles.
Renewal is inevitable, but it requires cultivation and companionship. Thank you for spending time with these stories. I hope they inspire you to stay connected with your human and non-human communities—and to tend renewal for both.
With gratitude,
Arya Natarajan
